Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I bought the new Patrick Ta palette, but I haven’t swatched it yet!

Weekend plans: I returned all of my Liqueur pups to the rescue yesterday afternoon (which is why I ended up so distracted and forgot to post this ON Friday!), and I’ll be spending most of today (Saturday) on site, hopefully watching them find their forever homes.

What’s your favorite breakfast? I love a hot latte with a croissant!

Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 Here’s a breakdown of what we have:

  • Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
  • Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
  • Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
  • Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)

This week's doggo photo/video...

Haul: Thankfully not as much as last week. I should fess up right away and say that I purchased two blushes that I wanted quite badly and after thinking about it, I decided to buy. I managed to resist the temptation for about a month and still wanted them and after seeing one of the Chanel Fantaisie blush/highlighters, brand new, boxed and with all the wrappings, I picked it up. I also got a Gucci blush in the shade Radiant Pink. I ordered the Chanel from an Ebay seller in Japan and he ships for free which is awesome from Japan. Shipping from Japan can be crazy expensive. Now I just need to pray it gets here undamaged. He was offering it at 1/3 the price of the ones I was looking at before. The Gucci blush is coming from Harrods and shipping is $30 so decided to add the Hermes Highlighter to the order to make it worthwhile.
Mercari- I spent a ton of time on Temptalia checking older products and seeing whether Christine had reviewed them and what she had to say. It has saved me several times. In one case, I decided to go ahead even though the score wasn’t perfect but to get a Chanel palette, brand new and in a color story I like, I went ahead. So, I found the 356 Au Fils des Fleurs and love it!! I also picked up a Tom Ford palette that is a similar color story. It is the Midnight Violet palette. Lastly, from Mercari, I got the Chanel blush/highlighter in the Printemps release. Christine had reviewed it and it received rave reviews and a recommend so I added it. I need to slow down on the blushes and don’t know why I have become so obsessed with them!

Quick mention of products I purchased last week and mentioned in my haul last Friday. I have used the Chanel Water Fresh Tint in shade light almost everyday this week. For me, it does have a little learning curve. I have finally made it work and I really like it. It has very, very sheer coverage so I am contemplating picking up the Water Fresh Touch as it is similar and has a bit more coverage.
The MAC Stack mascara is doing okay. Not perfect but I am not looking like a raccoon in an hour. By the ten hour mark I am starting to see a little transfer on the lower lid but no flaking.
Lisa Eldridge Eye Pencils are also doing okay. Not quite as set as she said in her preview video but that may just be my lids. I really love the Renaissance Gold shade and love that it can be smudged before it sets down a little. I also wore it on my lower waterline and it dd well. I would like to see her add a flesh tone to the line for the lower waterline.

My next foundation covet: Rituel de Filles 3 Drop Serum Foundation. It is suppose to be similar coverage to the Chanel but in an oil base rather than a water base. I have dry skin so I think it will work and they have more shades. They also offer samples kits so will start with that.

Weekend plans: Not much. Still working on the conversion. When you are doing everything yourself, it takes a lot of time but I am really near the end.

Favorite breakfast: If you have seen me on social media, you are aware that I must love food! In the winter I prefer a plain oatmeal with honey, butter and milk, a cup of coffee and some toast. For the rest of the year, I like the traditional American breakfast of bacon and eggs. If I can have Eggs Benedict then I will take that. Having said all that, I am practicing the carnivore diet which means I only eat meat, eggs and butter. Over the past winter I had ballooned up in weight and decided to try this. I have lost a little over 40 pounds and am feeling healthier than ever. My Doctor doesn’t approve but I am completely off all my diabetic medicines except a small does of insulin, which I am working to get off of. Luckily, the traditional American breakfast fits in the plan just no potatoes or toast with it!

Genevieve Avatar

Yes, I am looking for a new foundation as well Deborah and to find one that says cool undertones is not easy. I have tried Fenty’s matte one and it is a big disappointment – waaay too dry and hard to spread evenly across my face.
So I shall be very interested in what you end up with.
What are you converting?
I think I am with your doctor about not eating vegies and fruit – do you find you get a bit sluggish? I guess if it works….

Deborah S. Avatar

I am still working on the garage conversion that I started when my ex was living here. I sort of stopped working on it when I dropped into my depression and just was kind of not living for all of last winter. So, I have finally gotten the floor done and have it painted and lights are in but I need to do the moldings, put a French door to the outside and get the heat squared away. Then I will be ready to furnish it. I actually already have the furnishings and they are sitting in a storage shed but I am hoping to get it all out before the end of October and the threat of bad weather puts me off. The space is 22 feet by 22 feet so I am going to use part of it as my craft space and part as a more formal living room. I am going to call my current living room the den as it is open to the dining room and kitchen.
Yes, foundation hunting is very frustrating and expensive if you have to buy the full size. I have to most of the time just because of where I live. When you go to a store here such as Nordstrom’s or Sephora they will give you a sample but they frown on giving you samples of 10 different foundations! Why I don’t know, LOL!! Ulta won’t give samples and most makeup brands don’t offer sample sets so it is really a blind purchase. I have ten cushion foundations that I am trying. I have three skin tints and two foundations so if I find one I really love I will let you know. Undertone is always a challenge and I think I may just need to stop saying I am this or that because you could not believe how many times I have had makeup associates tell me that I am this or that, completely reversing each other. I also have to be a bit aware of cost. I don’t want to fall in love with the Sisley Paris foundation and then have to pay a small fortune for it. It is bad enough that Chanel is $70 for the Water Fresh Tint and it doesn’t go very far. I have a feeling that the Water Fresh Complexion Touch from Chanel will work as my summer foundation but I doubt it will be emollient enough for winter. That is why I am trying the Rituel De Fille as it is oil based but is not a heavy foundation that will look like a mask on my skin. As I returned to makeup, I am finding that foundations are not sitting on my skin the way they use to and even putting on the lightest amount and not powdering and they get cakey. I am not sure what has changed as my skin seems the same to me except that I have more hyperpigmentation and wrinkles. It makes me wonder how the Chosungah would work for me now if I could get it! I might end up hating it. I have the Dior cushion and have worn it about 10 times and don’t love it. I thought I would as it is suppose to be light coverage but it cakes up also, especially around my nose and upper lip. I do get some caking on the tops of my cheeks but I am sure that is related to my hyperpigmentation in those areas and my using concealer to try and cover them. I have been just letting them show recently so my cheeks are looking better. I am getting a ton of settling into wrinkles under my eyes. I tell you, getting older is for the birds!! I will keep you posted on my progress.

Although I definitely realize that no one will miss the precious Liquour Bottle Litter, I’m pretty sure that most if not all of your readers will also miss their sweet faces. It’s just been wonderful watching them go from newborns to full-bodied, very active, loving puppies!

Purchases/rediscoveries: Nothing purchased this week. Rediscovered my now quite old MAC x Ellie Goulding little eyeshadow quad the other day and did my version of the “Latté Eye” with it. All of the 3 shades I used still worked very nicely and gave me exactly what I was looking for. The only one I decided not to incorporate into my look was the pinkish coral shade.

Weekend plans: Well, if my lungs cooperate, I’m going to go food shopping later. Missed my meeting today because last night I was coughing, wheezing and didn’t get good quality sleep at all. So, tomorrow I will get it from my old congregation across town on Zoom.

Favorite breakfast? French toast or crepes filled with apple compote and topped with a dollop of sour cream with a few pieces of soft cooked (but still thoroughly done!) bacon with a cup of coffee. Suddenly IHOP sounds really good!

Deborah S. Avatar

Nancy, you have been struggling with your health for so long. I just wish there was some cure for you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. The good news is that winter is coming on and maybe you will be able to breath easier if the temperatures aren’t above 100 degrees.
I am the kind of person that if Zoon meetings were available, I would never leave my house. I guess I should be happy that I actually have to go to church on Sundays or I would probably never be seen again!

This summer was particularly bad for anyone who has asthma, COPD,any pulmonary illnesses in this area, and many other places too. I believe it has much to do with the fact that with the unrelenting oppressive heat and not much in the way of monsoon cooled nights where one can throw open their windows and sliding doors and get that clean air exchange in their homes. To think; doctors used to send patients with lung disease to Arizona for relief!

Genevieve Avatar

Are you coughing because of asthma or is it a remnant of covid? My eldest son has been coughing for months. He sounds like a steam train and it is driving us crazy. He’s been to the doctor a couple of times and has been given all manner of things, which I don’t think are working. Mind you, it took him long enough to go….
It’s probably the weather that could be triggering your asthma – are there any thunderstorms around? Humidity does it too.
I hope you are feeling better during the week Nancy.

Recent Purchases: No makeup, but a couple of fragrances: Chanel No. 5 L’Eau and Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Rosa Rossa.

Rediscoveries: MAC lipsticks in Bronx and Cherish, which I haven’t worn in a long time.

Weekend Plans: Just the usual (visiting family, chores, etc.).

What’s your favorite breakfast? Omelet with onion, green pepper, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese; seasoned fried potatoes; and coffee with cream and sugar…but I usually just have a banana and coffee.

Mariella Avatar

Recent purchases: nothing. Rediscoveries: Chanel Tisse d’automne (the cooler weather this past week was enough for me to haul it out of hibernation), Smashbox Legendary lipstick (I reached for it in error, reaching for – what else…CRAVING – and it’s such a gorgeous red that I went with it…) and also the Buxom palette I made – using Style Icon for a “one and done” made getting ready really nice and quick and with Designer or Die in the crease, a bit more “done”.

Weekend plans – finish those darned culottes, gym, groceries and a bit of taking it easy.

My favourite breakfast – I love going out for brunch – it always seems like being on vacation. I’m happy with the “classic” – eggs over-easy, bacon crispy, home-fries and some good coffee. For special “home” breakfasts (when we invite folks for brunch), I love having a strata of some sort (but in this family, there are those who won’t eat bacon, sausage or ham and those who won’t eat mushrooms, both of which feature in most of my favourite recipes but I recently found a strata recipe that contains neither but which is really nice). I’ll make bacon and/or sausages to have on the side for all of us who love those breakfast meats and if I have the time, some home made muffins or coffee cake.

Genevieve Avatar

I had the beautiful Tisse D’Automne out the other day and used the first three shades – I find the darker green a bit too dark on me, but it was beautiful.
Yes, I know about those who don’t eat ham, bacon etc (pain in the neck!) and going out for brunch is just the thing to make you feel happy all day.
Have a restful weekend Mariella. Love those books by Deborah Crosbie by the way – I could only get a few from our local libray and the two that I have read, I have really enjoyed.

Debbie Avatar

I am a very bad person…I caved and got the Natasha Denona I Need a Nude palette. I also have gotten the Sydney Grace monthly bundles every month for the past year and am loving the powder shadows, the creme shadows, the highlights and the glosses.
As far as this weekend, my husband and I are celebrating the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. If anyone here is also celebrating, L’Shana Tovah.
As far as my favorite breakfast, Avocado Toast with Smoked Salmon and a poached egg with coffee and Brown Sugar Oat creamer, and fresh fruit.

Deborah S. Avatar

That palette looks so lovely and I bet it looks wonderful on you. It will be a real workhorse palette. I am trying to stay away from larger palettes as I have rarely pulled them out since returning to makeup. I was going to buy it for my daughter but she doesn’t really like the ND formula. I told her that I thought they had changed the formula but she didn’t want to chance it and then just have the palette sit around for ages.

Genevieve Avatar

Happy Jewish New Year, Ross Hashanah Debbie and I hope you are having a fabulous celebration.
You are NOT a bad person at all! I love the I Need a Nude palette and intend to get it for my birthday. I also have quite a few of those marvellous SG singles and they are just divine. I don’t get the monthy bundles because I am not a matte eyeshadow wearer and some of the shades are a bit too dark for me. But they are great value though.

Genevieve Avatar

It seems that no part of your home has been untouched by these curious little darklings. I love the boxes of toys that you have for them to explore and find – much like our place with the toys around for our grandchildren.
It would have been very sad to have said goodbye to them as they have been so much a part of your life for the past 9 weeks and your place must seem strangely quiet and perhaps a bit empty now.
It would have been a very hectic and busy day for you yesterday.

Recent Purchases: Due to our warmer weather lately, I have been checking out the sunscreens and purchased the Ego brand – but I don’t like it because of the very white caste it has. So I will be looking at getting some others for my arms etc.
Rediscoveries: Still using a variety of my eye palettes – Guerlain’s Les Gris, PMG’s Subliminal Bronze, Smashbox’s Petal Metal.

Weekend Plans: Last Friday was our eldest son’s 40th birthday and we celebrated it by taking him and our family (minus the grandchildren) out to dinner at his favourite Italian restaurant. My twin sister Allison and her husband were able to come too. It was fabulous. Charlotte came along in her pram, but she slept all the way through, so mum and dad could enjoy their night out.
On Sunday, today, we are going out to a local hotel, which has a playroom, with the grandchildren to celebrate some more, so they don’t miss out on the festivities of their favourite uncle.
On a sadder note – Anika’s father has, over the past six months, developed Parkinson’s Disease, with Lewy Body demetia. In addition to that he also has a malignant brain tumour situated in the Thalamus region of his brain – it is considered to be inoperable and very agressive. He is currently in hospital whilst all of the tests and scan have been done. A very worrying time for their family.

On a happier note, I have started reading some of the books by the author Deborah Crosbie, as suggested by Mariella some time ago on this blog. So far I have read one and have just started another. They are just fantastic.

Favourite Breakfast: I often can’t go past Eggs Benedict or Avocado on toast, with lots of extras. Plus a large cup of cappucino…..

Deborah S. Avatar

Oh no Genevieve, I am so sorry to hear about Anika’s father. I remember when my father passed and how devastated I was. My mom had had her six craniotomies by then and she has never been the same and then my Dad passed and it was like losing both parents at once. My Dad and I were very close. I wouldn’t say I was his favorite but I benefited from the fact that his first marriage ended about 8 months after his first child was born and his ex-wife managed to block him from seeing her for many years. He met and married my mother about 2 months later and so I think I got all of the love he felt for my half-sister plus what I would have had anyway. He was really intelligent and taught himself advanced math, engineering and so many things. He moved us to Southern California where he went to work as an engineer. He built a good portion of the area called Orange County. I imagine a lot of people who live there probably wish he hadn’t. Anyway, I don’t know why I am blubbering on here but I will keep Anika, her family and you in my prayers. I believe in miracles so it can happen.

Genevieve Avatar

Thank you Deborah for your kind words and prayers. This has come on very suddenly (the tumour) – three or so months ago when he first had some scans it was not present. A tumour in the Thalamus region is very rare. As I was saying to Mariella, the current debate is whether to do a biopsy or not to find out what kind of tumour it is because they cannot tell by the scans.

Mariella Avatar

G, were you able to get the “physical” books with the maps on the inner covers? If not, you can see them (though rather small) on her website! I am so glad you are enjoying them.

I’m sorry to hear about your daughter in law’s father. It may sound harsh, and I don’t mean it to sound that way, or unfeeling, but honestly, from what you describe, I hope he’s not poked and prodded with pointless tests and that, instead, he can have an easy end to his life.

Genevieve Avatar

Yes Mariella I got the physical books with the maps and I just love them. My sister has read quite a few of the authors books as well.
And yes again, you are not being harsh but being humane – both Anika’s family and the doctors are concerned about needless tests performed on him. At this point in time he is in a specialist hospital in Melbourne Central (no easy feat for Anika to go and see him) and the doctors are discussing whether to do a biopsy on the tumour or not – given his state of health and well being. They are all very mindful of that.

The Liqueur pups are all so adorable, and I hope they all find forever homes quickly!

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries:
Paula’s Choice Mini Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant
Fenty Beauty Precision Makeup Sponge
Sephora Reusable Cotton Pads Clean
Sephora Eye Treatment Application Brush
Guerlain Terracotta Le Teint Healthy Glow Foundation in 0.5N (I couldn’t find it in store anywhere to swatch so *fingers crossed* it’s a match!)
Lawless Forget the Filler Moisturizer/Primer (I tried it out on my hand, and it felt wonderful! I didn’t notice much “plumping” of my face the first time I used it, but it didn’t feel bad either.)
Haus Labs Highlighter in Rose Quartz (I don’t even go on TikTok but I still manage to get influenced by it! It looked so pretty and not glittery in the video.)

I’ve been having a lot of trouble taking advantage of the Ulta Beauty Steals because my orders are not going through online, and I can’t get to the store every day! I did manage to get an Origins eye cream because I just happened to be near a store that day.

Weekend plans: Whole lotta nothin’ but I hope to get my bathroom more organized.

What’s your favorite breakfast? Stuffed French toast with good black tea, although pain au chocolat is also appreciated

Deborah S. Avatar

I swatched the Haus Labs Highlighter in Rose Quartz while I was in Vancouver and should have purchased it. It is really beautiful. I knew it would be too dark for me as a highlighter and really didn’t think much about using it more as a blush but I should have. Let me know how you like it, please. I have to take my grandkitty back to her mommy sometime towards the end of the month and so I will be in Seattle and can pick it up then. Thank you.

Genevieve Avatar

I am hoping for your sake that the Guerlain foundation works for you – so hard to find a match these days that works on your skin. You must be pretty fair if you are going for a 0.5N. I would probably be the same, except I have pink undertones. Was it expensive?
So annoying when your orders don’t go through online – that happened to me when I was trying to take advantage of a MAC sale here in Melbourne Aus. The web site was useless and I gave up. It was the pits.
I hope all your new purchases work out for you.

Stephanie Avatar

Purchases & rediscoveries? I bought myself some spectrum collection brushes after like 2 years of considering how to upgrade my brush collection. I have a few older brushes I’ll keep like my workhorse MAC 217 from circa 2010, but some others I might hand off to my mom. No rediscoveries but I did purchase replacements for the L’Oréal scrub I love, First Aid Bump Eraser, and Differin Gel. These are all skin care holy grails for my weird sensitive and bumpy skin.

Weekend plans? I hurt my leg on the stairs yesterday on my way to work, so I’ve just been taking it easy. I am probably going to start The Other Black Girl on Hulu since I’ve finished s4 of Glow Up as well. Tomorrow I’ll work in the afternoon then have shrimp and fried rice with my sweet hubby.

Favorite breakfast? Mine is definitely pancakes with some coffee and some fresh fruits on the side. There’s a restaurant here that makes these lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberries and it’s so good. Fun fact: my husband’s favorite breakfast is probably takeout leftovers, especially Indian food or pizza.

Deborah S. Avatar

Sounds like your husband and I could be BFF’s. I really don’t care for pizza fresh from the pizza oven. I prefer it cold the next day! Grosses my family out but I find I actually like a lot of takeout cold and a day later. Now that I am practicing the carnivore diet, I cook my meat the day before and eat it cold the next day. Just a quirk, I think.
Hope you leg feels better soon.

Genevieve Avatar

OMG Stephanie- I hope you have only strained your leg and not fractured it. Is it swollen? That would be most annoying and painful for you.
I had a little giggle about your husband’s favourite brekkie…my youngest son used to eat the homemade lasagne I had in the fridge – so I know what some males are like.

Stephanie Avatar

Nope, thankfully neither my leg nor my ankle are swollen, so I don’t believe there’s too much damage done! I rested a lot on Saturday so by the time I had to go to work it was more of a twinge than anything else. I’m hopeful the worst of it really will be the bruise developing on my arm.

Ana Maria Avatar

Recent Purchases: A quick Sephora order to get Paula’s Choice Cleansing Balm and re-stock on hair products (Verb Mini Glossy Shine Heat Protectant Spray, SEPHORA COLLECTION Smoothing Cream; and I got the Shu Uemura hair oil with points reward)

Rediscoveries: Clean Reserve Skin fragrance

Weekend plans: After having to deal for many weekends with pre and post-move chores, I had to return to hiking in the redwoods. I’m debating if to go to the opera on Sunday… I miss going to the opera, but the play doesn’t call for the trouble of going downtown.

What’s your favorite breakfast? I don’t do breakfast, but I love breakfast food (especially breakfast for dinner). And eggs have to be involved. Something between English Breakfast (runny eggs, baked beans, mushroom, sausages, thick back bacon, almost burnt toast) and something mildly Northern Europe inspired (boiled or poached eggs, smoked salmon but I won’t refuse other types of smoked fish, fish eggs spread – not caviar, rye crispbread, quark or some sort of farmers cheese)

Helene Avatar

First good luck to the adorable puppies!
What does Winnie say when the house is his again, does he miss the little ones?

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: No purchases. No real rediscoveries either. I’ve not used any makeup since Tuesday, then it was SG singles in purple shades, but I use those regularly.

Weekend plans: You know, rest and sleep, try to drink more, eat a bit, rinse and repeat.

What’s your favorite breakfast? I’m not sure, if I feel like something sweet it’s blueberry pancakes with coffee. If I want something saltier, it’s fried eggs and toast, again with coffee. If I can have a latte instead of ordinary coffee, I’m quite happy.
