Danessa Myricks Groundwork Palette Swatches
Danessa Myricks Groundwork Palette ($65.00) is a new, permanent palette that features eight pomade/powder duos that are designed to be multi-tasking so that they can be used on face, eyes, brows, and lips. The brand has acknowledged that some of the pomade shades in the palette have “surface crystallization, which is a common phenomenon with pomade formula types,” which “does not effect the safety or performance.” This is the white bits shown on some shades.
I have had issues with the palette and getting pigmentation/blendability out of a lot of the pomade shades, and I’m going to give it a few more tries. My experience seems fairly different from a lot of other people, both consumers and influencers (that I trust).
I’ve found that I prefer using synthetic brushes with the putty/pomade formula more than my goat hair brushes. That being said I also find the lighter shades easier to pick up than the darker. I’ve not had any issues building up the color though, so I just adjust when needed. I can use ghost hair for darker colors when I want and synthetic for all to start light before building up.
It hasn’t seemed to matter if I use putty over powder or powder over putty either. Both techniques work just as well though the nature of the powder darkens/intensifies the color application.
So is “pomade” just another word for cream shadow?
Not quite. It’s more of a putty or clay-like texture – you could press your finger in it and move the product around!
Pomade is a styling wax
i had a lot of trouble with the yummy skin blurring powder so in guess this palette won’t be for me either 🙁
I think the pictures of the eyeshadows and swatches for Stone are incorrect. They look more like more pictures of Sandstone. I’m really interested in seeing how Stone looks.
Fixed!
I don’t know if I have ever tried a pomade or putty type shadow? I would not be opposed but I just don’t see any new shades or anything that would make an addition to my makeup collection. It looks like a lot of warm browns and nudes , of which I have way too many as it is.
Whatever it is I don’t really like it – far too matte looking for me and there seems to be a lot of duplication going on too. I appreciate the autumnal vibe from the brand but wish there were more choices re finishes.
You mean you’re not excited about the BLACK shades???? (just joshin’).
It’s either to the quality of your camera or the quality of the palette and how it swatches that I’m going to have to nope out on this one. I hear and see so many reviews regarding her products, but none have really caught my attention enough to make me want to pull the trigger to purchase. Which makes me sad because so many people get so excited about her releases. I’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds.
Heads-up that photos of Sandstone are showing up for Stone!
Fixed!
I love her brand but honestly this maybe a lil too innovative for me because i agree with you, i struggle to get the pigmentation I desire. I do enjoy the formula of the powders and would have preferred that the powder shades were larger and the putty shades smaller. I see a comment here that reccommends synthetic brushes so I’ll definitely try that out overall i like it but dont love it
I know SOOOO many people seem to be loving the palette, and it has just been such a struggle for me! 🙁 I am typically a fan of Danessa Myricks’ products, so I feel like the odd person out!
Totally lol I’m looking at reviews like Is it me? Am I the problem because its really just not my favorite I do like it for lip liner/contour but on the eyes I’m just not sold
Interesting concept and a decent price but totally not for me. I imagine this would be good for makeup artists.
I am fairly sure I’d like this – I REALLY miss the CCB from Mac and find i reach for these types of products. I like how they blend in the skin,. But if you’re finding issues with the pomade… And the price likely will be prohibitive in CAD. A lot of products have become priced out of range in this part of the continent. It’s too bad. Seems a waste.
The texture is definitely much drier compared to CCBs!
OOOOHHHHHH..Thank you! That’ll kill my interest, which is a good thing! LOL.
Even seeing it on YouTube hasn’t done it for me. I’m just not feeling it. I’ve got all my favorite neutral matte eyeshadows that I always enjoy using and know what to expect, whether warmer, cooler, in-between. Also have some lovely bronzers, too. So, with all my bases (basics?) covered, this isn’t for me.
Had this one for a few days before selling it. I liked the powders but not the pomades, with the exception of the black pomade which worked great to line. The pomades were too much work for the face, so I would only use it as an eyeshadow palette. I think the powders should’ve gone into the big pans and the pomades into the small pans. Wouldn’t recommend it, but it’s usable. Long-wearing on the eyes on top of eye primer. Not long-wearing on sparse eyebrows and oily skin.
